The French anthropologist's classic work argues that honour killing is not a phenomenon specific to Islam, but rather part of a pagan Mediterranean legacy of cousin-marriage that still affects Christian and Muslim societies in today's world. This new (2007) edition of Tillion's work, which was first published as Le Harem et Les Cousins in 1966, contains an excellent introduction by SOAS's Deniz Kandiyoti, which conisders the significance of the work in a post-9/11 context.
